Matt is a recognized business leader and entrepreneur with a 30-year career of starting companies and revitalizing struggling operations. Upon completing his bachelor’s degree, he partnered with a professor to launch a business and manage its operations. Over the years, Matt has built strong, stable administrative teams, mentoring many members who have gone on to become successful business leaders.
Matt has led companies with hundreds of employees and has driven significant growth, including nearly tripling the revenue of a 50-year-old business within five years. At one hospital district on the verge of bankruptcy, Matt, as CEO, stabilized operations, addressed overdue employee retirement payments, and led efforts to secure a $20 million loan to replace critical facilities. Currently, as CEO of Southern Humboldt Community Healthcare District (SHCHD) for the past nine years, Matt has introduced new services, expanded outreach, and significantly grown gross revenue from $12 million to a projected $40 million this year.
Matt’s leadership has also extended to community development. SHCHD launched the first mobile optometry unit in Northwest California, opened a retail pharmacy during COVID to serve rural communities, and recently obtained licensing for a new group behavioral health service, Senior Life Solution, set to launch in early 2025. Additionally, SHCHD is designing a new hospital and expanding a nursing home to further support the community. Despite operating in a remote area with an aging facility, SHCHD generates over 33% of its revenue from patients outside its service district.
